In New York City there are fifty-one different types of mosquitoes. Most mosquitoes do not spread disease, but transmit diseases like West Nile virus, Zika, Chikungunya and Dengue Fever. Female mosquitoes live for about three weeks. At the beginning of the life cycle, eggs hatch into larvae. A mosquito only needs one once of water to lay 200 eggs. The larvae live in the water and feed on algae and bacteria until they mature. This is why inspection is paramount in mosquito control. Any standing water, murky land, puddles bird baths or uncleaned gutters can be the source of a mosquito problem.

Mosquitoes use carbon dioxide, body odors and temperature, and movement to locate their victims. Only female mosquitoes are able to suck blood. When sucking blood from a person, they stab two tubes into the skin. One tube injects an enzyme that inhibits blood clotting; the other to suck blood into their bodies. The female mosquitoes “drink” about 3 milligrams of blood per bite. They use the blood as a source of protein for their eggs.

Predator Pest Control effectively treats mosquito infestations using the following 3 methods:

  • IGR treatment: IGR stands for insect growth regulator. This is used to stop the reproduction of mosquitoes in the community.
  • Larvicide Treatment: This treatment is used to kill any hatchling mosquito pupa and larva before they mature into adult mosquitoes primarily in bodies of water, catch basins, ponds, etc.)

For years, Predator Pest Control has effectively regulated and treated Mosquito issues in the 5 boroughs and Long Island. Predator pest control can provide an alternative to pesticides for any chemically sensitive customers that request a natural alternative. One such product we use is called “Naturecide” which is 100% natural and has no known mammalian toxicity. We have been using it to treat ticks and mosquitoes with great success.
